Where: Karlsplatz
When: October 7th | 6pm
A vigil for the Palestinian & Israeli civilian victims.
Standing together for an immediate ceasefire and hostage & prisoners release deal
October 7th marks exactly one year since our lives changed abruptly. On that fateful day, Hamas killed around 1200 Israelis and abducted 251 as hostages, which started a war of destruction on Gaza. Over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed and the majority of Gaza's population has already been displaced several times and has been brought into a deliberately created humanitarian catastrophe.
Nowhere in Gaza is safe from Israeli attacks. Those who survive are suffering from hunger, thirst and a lack of medical care. Even now, it is impossible to quantify the enormous damage caused to people and property in Gaza in any comprehensible way. At least 17,000 children in the Gaza Strip are on their own, as they have either lost their parents in the chaos or their parents are simply dead.
We stand together in the belief that all people in Israel and Palestine can live in peace and justice with full equal rights for all. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an agreement for the release of Israeli civilians held captive by Hamas, as well as administrative detainees held illegally by Israel, the return of the hundreds thousands of Israelis and Lebanese that are displaced, and an end to the inhumane siege of Gaza.
This war did not happen in a vacuum, and a return to the pre-October 7 status quo of systematic oppression of Palestinians through occupation, segregation, and creeping annexation will lead to further escalations of violence. It is clear to us that there is no just military solution to this conflict. Only equal rights for all and an end to the occupation will bring a life of peace, justice and protection for Israelis and Palestinians alike.
Come to our vigil at Karlsplatz on 7 October at 18:00. We ask you not to bring any flags or logos of political organizations. We do not tolerate incitement or bigotry. We stand firmly together against all forms of racism, anti-Semitism, sexism and queerphobia.
